For those who are looking for a great four door sports utility vehicle, the 2012 Subaru Forester is a wise choice for a great number of reasons. This five seater is available in three styles including the 2.5x model, the 2.5x L.L. Bean Edition, and the2.5 XT model. All of these models are equipped with the legendary Subaru Full Time All Wheel Drive system and the combine power and style into one highly economical package.

The 2.5 X model is powered by one of the most exciting power plants to come out of Subaru in years, a 2.5 liter H4 engine that delivers an incredible 165 horsepower, while at the same time being one of the most quite engines on the road today and offering up an astounding 21 MPG city and 28 MPG highway. This power plant is paired up with five speed manual transmission which transfers all of this power and fuel economy to the road in an impressive way. Driving the 2.5x is akin to driving a powerful luxury car while still delivering the versatility of an SUV.

The 2.5x L.L. Bean model is also powered by an H4 engine. In this case the power plant is the .5 liter H4 which has been rated at 210 horsepower and fuel economy of 19 MPG city and 23 MGP highway. The L.L. Bean edition is augmented by the addition of special luxury packages which contains the kind of amenities that the upper middle class, sophisticated customer of the L.L. Bean lifestyle would expect from an item which carries the brand symbol. The 2.5XT powers up the line with a massive 2.5 liter 4 cylinder turbocharged engine of the XT delivers 224 horsepower, which places it in the same performance category as the Rendezvous by Buick and the RAV4 from Toyota.

All editions of the 2012 Subaru forester X Series share a common base features package. This package includes power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, electronic cruise control system, 16 inch tires, and a 100 watt entertainment system. The XS level of the series includes additional features such as automatic climate control systems, six disk CD changer, leather warped shifter and steering wheel, and upgraded carpeting throughout the interior. For those who are looking for even more, the XT model includes roof rails, seven speaker sound system with built in subwoofer, heated front seats which are ergonomically designed, and an upgrades wiper system. All foresters are equipped with the companies industry leading ABS system to which the XS and XT models add Rear disk brakes, active head restraint systems and side impact airbags.

All of this comes packed into a vehicle which has been consistently awarded five star rating on all forms of side impact and head on collision testing. Indeed, it seems that in the forester X series form, function, and safety have found a way to coexist beautifully. All of this engineering and amenities, however means nothing if the vehicles is not comfortable and fun to drive. This is why all 2012 Subaru Forester models have been redesigned to provide a much more enjoyable experience for occupants. While the cargo capacity is slightly lower than that of other vehicles in its class, the interior offers wider hip space and more leg room than comparable models from other makers. It performs admirably through out a wide range of driving conditions, it is even highly stable at the upper limit of its speed capacity. The only thing that could be said in criticism of the 2012 Forester is that the steering starts to feel a bit vague at extreme upper speeds. While this is not a major issue it could be a slight annoyance for driving purists who spend a great deal of time on the highway at high speeds.

All in all, the 2012 Subaru Forester is a great choice for those who are looking for a luxury category SUV, but want to stay grounded with a vehicle that can take on whatever you want to throw at it. This year’s forester has been thoughtfully redesigned to include a wide range of features that are normally found at a price point much higher than this economically priced Full Sized four door.
