The 2007 Toyota Matrix is a compact hatchback that seats 5 passengers. The Matrix is available in two models, entry level and XR. Both models are powered by a four cylinder 1.8 Liter engine that is rated at 126 horsepower and 122 pound-feet of torque. The Matrix is equipped with a five speed manual transmission though optional is a four speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy ratings of the Toyota matrix model equipped with the manual transmission are 30 miles per gallon on city streets and 36 miles per gallon highway. The fuel economy ratings of the Toyota Corolla model equipped with the automatic transmission are 28 miles per gallon on city streets and 37 miles per gallon highway.
The Matrix entry level model is equipped with air conditioning and a CD player. The Matrix XR model is equipped with powered locks, powered windows, and a wiper in the rear. Optional on the Matrix XR model is 16 inch tires, a moon roof, a JBL music system and a CD player. Also available with the XR is an M Theory package that includes, 17 inch tires, a suspension that is sports tuned and a tower brace. All models are equipped with anti-lock disc brakes and optional on the matrix are airbags on the side for front passengers, and curtain airbags on the side for the entire length of the vehicle.
The 2008 Toyota matrix was awarded five stars by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in head on collision crash tests for driver protection and four stars for protection of the passenger seated in the front seat. The vehicle has a very simple looking interior with nice materials used in building it. Its driver seat is not very comfortable for very tall drivers. Its back seat is comfortable for adults. The roof of the Matrix is reverse wedge in shape. The roof is sloped down wards at the back, and its rear windows are shaped upwards.
